  17. The hourglass and pointer cursors indicate the same things under
  18. Windows NT that they do under Windows. The hourglass indicates that an
  19. application is busy and that the user cannot perform any new action
  20. with that application. However, Windows NT allows the user to switch
  21. to a new application, even when an application is showing an
  22. hourglass. The pointer indicates that the application is ready for
  23. user commands.

  25. There is also a new cursor introduced in the Windows NT operating
  26. system: an hourglass plus a pointer (referred to as a "startglass").
  27. It indicates that the system has received an application start request
  28. and is processing it, but that the user can still perform other mouse
  29. commands (such as starting another application or switching to another
  30. window).

  34. The startglass was added so that if an application took several
  35. seconds to display a window, the user would not think that the
  36. application had not started, and then try to start another instance.

  38. Note that the cursor is not available as a standard cursor, nor does
  39. it have an identifier in the header files for use by application
  40. programmers.
